We are pleased to introduce the new release of CS OrthoTrac Software v15.1.5.93

If you would like to preview the new features in CS OrthoTrac Software v15 before upgrading then please download the attached program. This will walk you through the new features and allow you to watch a video introduction . To hear the audio portion of the video, your computer must have a sound card and headphones or speakers.

Before Installing the Update

Your practice must already be using CS Orthotrac software v11 or v12 and CS Orthodontic Imaging software version 11.4 or higher before installing the CS OrthoTrac Software v15 update. Your OrthoTrac and Imaging versions are displayed on the main menu bar:

If you need a newer version, please do not upgrade but do contact the Orthotrac helpdesk.

Computer Hardware Requirements

Before installation it is important to check that all your hardware meets the requirements of CS OrthoTrac Software v15.1.5.92. Please read the ORTHOTRAC Practice Management Software v15.0 System Requirements

Monitor Display Requirements

The requirements for monitor screen resolution have changed for use with the new Charting and Treatment Card; the minimum screen resolution is 1366×768 and the recommended screen resolution is still set at 1920×1080.

The screen resolution of the monitor of each PC in your practice must be checked prior to install to make sure it is between 1366×768 and 1920×1080, especially the surgery PCs which use the Charting and Treatment Card.

If a screen resolution is lower than 1366×768 and cannot be increased to 1920×1080 please call the Orthotrac helpdesk.

As a general rule if the monitor is old and square then it is not likely to obtain the required resolution.

DO NOT change your screen resolution to a higher value than the one marked as recommended.

To check the screen resolution of a monitor:

On a Windows 7 PC right-click on the desktop and select Screen Resolution from the menu.

On a Windows 10 PC right-click on the desktop and select Display Settings from the menu.

Microsoft Office 2016

MS Office 2016 Prof (or) Ent – 32-bit only is now certified for use with CS OrthoTrac Software v14.

Click to Run versions, Office 365 and Home & Office of any MS Office product are not supported.

PLEASE NOTE, even though MS Office 2016 is certified for use there is a known issue with Outlook 2016 and the Orthotrac AWPS letter function where letters cannot be emailed from that function with MS Outlook 2016.  This is being worked on for resolution in a future release.  The work around for this is to print the letter to a PDF or XPS file and then email that file as an attachment through Outlook.

If all your hardware meets the requirements of CS OrthoTrac Software v15.1.5.92 then continue with the upgrade.

Upgrading to CS OrthoTrac Software v15.1.5.92

Server Installation

The upgrade to CS OrthoTrac Software v15.1.5.92 is only a software upgrade so it will not take too long. However, we do recommend that you perform the update at the end of a working day rather than at lunchtime.

The following section summarises the essential installation procedures for updating the CS OrthoTrac software on the CS Orthotrac server:

  1. Make sure all CS OrthoTrac workstations are out of the CS OrthoTrac software and shut the workstations down.
  2. It is important that you run the File> Prepare Backup function in CS OrthoTrac and run a successful daily backup to external media before commencing the update to CS OrthoTrac Software v15.1.5.92.
  3. If you have an external hard drive for backup purposes then disconnect it from the CS OrthoTrac server once the backup is completed.
  4. Restart the CS OrthoTrac server and log on as a user with full Administrator rights. This is the user ORTHOTRAC on a standard setup.
  5. The download and installation of the CS OrthoTrac Software v15 must be performed on the main CS OrthoTrac server first and not a workstation. On the CS OrthoTrac server download the CS OrthoTrac Software v15.1.5.92 installer by completing the form at the bottom of the page and clicking Submit and Download V15. On the next page use “Click to download v15.1.5.92 Update” and on the next page you will see the following:

Select “Download anyway” and the download will start. The download itself will take approximately 30 minutes depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

6: Once downloaded open the CSOrthoTrac14Installer.exe (note that it may have downloaded to your Downloads folder). At the following screen make sure the Destination folder path is to the Desktop.

If the Destination folder path is not to the Desktop then click the Browse button, in the “Browse For Folder” screen select Desktop and click OK to set the Destination folder path to the Desktop. Then click Extract. Once it has extracted you will have a CSOrthoTrac14Installer folder on your desktop. Open the CSOrthoTrac14Installer folder on your desktop and double- click on the OrthoTracInstMenu entry:

   7: At the CS Orthotrac v15.1 install screen click “Install v15.1.5.92”

8: In the Installation Type window the update determines the type of machine that is being updated and automatically defaults to the server. The Next button will be disabled until you tick the checkbox to confirm that you acknowledge that you have read the current system requirements and understood the hardware and software requirements described therein. If your PCs do not meet this requirement then do not proceed, otherwise tick the checkbox and click Next.

9: The Choose Destination Location window is displayed. Do NOT change this location and click Next.

10: The Start Update window is displayed. Click Next.

11: The Release Code window is displayed. Select Automatically via the Internet and then OK. If you cannot obtain a release code by this method then cancel out of the upgrade and contact the Orthotrac helpdesk.

12: The setup program copies the CS OrthoTrac software to your computer.

13: The CS OrthoTrac Update window is displayed, asking if you want to create a backup of your database. Click Yes.

14: The installation program updates the database and then copies the OrthoTrac software to your computer.

15: The installation is completed and a message is displayed prompting you to restart your PC, click OK.

16: The server will restart and should be logged back on.

17: If you have an external hard drive for backup purposes then reconnect it to the server

Workstation Installation

The following section summarises the essential installation procedures for updating the CS OrthoTrac software on a workstation:

  1. Start up the workstation and log on as a user with full Administrator rights. This is the user ORTHOTRAC on a standard setup.
  2. Open the CS OrthoTrac software as normal; the downloaded CS OrthoTrac software installer is not required. A message will state that a new version exists on the server, click Yes to install it on the workstation.
  3. CS OrthoTrac Software v15.1.5.92 is installed on the workstation. 
  4. Restart the workstation if prompted to do so, otherwise the CS OrthoTrac software will open automatically.
  5. Close out of the CS OrthoTrac software.
  6. Repeat these steps to update each CS OrthoTrac computer on your network.
